Police Arrest 12 Over Alleged Vandalism on Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway
The Lagos State Police Command says it has arrested 12 suspects, aged 19 to 32, over the alleged vandalism and theft of infrastructure on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. Police said the arrests followed intelligence-led investigations into repeated damage along the route. Vandalised iron materials were reportedly recovered, while the suspects have made statements about their alleged involvement. The Federal Ministry of Works said about 1,800 drainage covers, one kilometre of clear-view fencing and roughly 75 directional signs have been targeted since January. Authorities also said some people were arrested for allegedly operating illegal toll points on the highway. Residents have been urged to report suspicious activity, as officials warned against trading, illegal parking, motorcycle riding and other unauthorised activities on the highway.
