Police Rescue Abducted Kwara Monarch and Two Others, Kill Suspected Kidnapper
The Kwara State Police Command has rescued the Onigbesi of Igbesi, Oba Moses Oyinloye Omotayo, and two other kidnap victims after a security operation around the Elerin/Ijomu-Oro axis of the state. The monarch and the other victims, Maryam Abubakar and Aisha Ilyasu, were abducted by gunmen in Igbesi, Isin Local Government Area, on August 22, 2026. Police said the rescue followed intelligence from a vigilante after one of its members was injured in the area. A combined team of police, military personnel and vigilantes reportedly exchanged fire with the suspected kidnappers. One suspect was killed, while others fled. The three victims were taken to hospital for medical attention and are said to be safe. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing members of the gang and curb kidnapping across identified flashpoints in Kwara State.
