National Assembly Suspends Engagements With South Africa Over Xenophobic Attacks

The National Assembly has suspended all official legislative engagements with South Africa following renewed reports of xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African nationals. The decision covers official visits, conferences, workshops, parliamentary meetings and exchange programmes involving lawmakers, committees, staff and legislative authorities. It applies to both physical and virtual participation. The legislature said the measure followed reports of Nigerians being killed, injured, displaced and forced to leave their homes, businesses and investments. The suspension will remain in force until further notice and may be reviewed as circumstances change.
