Bandit Attack in Goronyo: Imam and Three Others Killed, 12 Abducted
Suspected bandits stormed Illelar Dawagware village in Goronyo LGA of Sokoto State around 12:20am on June 28. Witnesses say about 30 attackers on nine motorcycles opened fire for 30 minutes. The assailants killed the village imam and three others before going house to house and abducting 12 residents — eight women and four men. One survivor, Alhaji Samaila, suffered a gunshot fracture and is receiving treatment in Sokoto. Villagers say they called nearby security forces for help and even offered to cover fuel costs, but no reinforcements arrived. This marks the 24th attack on the community, which last suffered a deadly raid two years ago. Fearing fresh violence, many residents have moved to the IDP camp in Goronyo. They are appealing to federal and state authorities and security agencies to end the recurring assaults.
