CIA Director John Ratcliffe has made an unannounced visit to Moscow for meetings with Russian officials, according to a US official. The CIA has not disclosed the purpose of the trip. The visit comes as negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war remain stalled. A source said the US asked Ukraine to pause drone and missile strikes on Moscow and other northern Russian cities from Monday to Wednesday because a senior American official would be in Russia. Ratcliffe’s trip is his first known visit to Russia as CIA director under President Donald Trump. The visit also follows Washington’s new effort to increase economic pressure on Iran, a key Russian trading partner. An American C-17 military transport aircraft was reported to have landed at Moscow’s Vnukovo airport early Tuesday.
