Tinubu Receives UN’s Proposed $14bn Budget for 2027
President Bola Tinubu has received the United Nations’ proposed 2027 budget from Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Jimoh Ibrahim, at the State House in Abuja. Ibrahim, who chairs the UN General Assembly’s Fifth Committee on budgetary and administrative matters, presented the seven-volume proposal after it was submitted to the committee by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He said the proposal includes about $3.4 billion for the UN’s regular activities and $8.5 billion for peacekeeping operations. The budget is still subject to negotiations, scrutiny and approval by UN member states before it can take effect. The envoy described the presentation as a milestone for Nigeria’s participation in the UN budget process, but did not state what direct benefits Nigeria could receive from the spending plan.
