Police Probe 30 Political Killings Ahead of Osun Governorship Election
The Nigeria Police Force says it is investigating 30 suspected politically motivated killings linked to the run-up to the August 15 governorship election in Osun State. Force Public Relations Officer CSP Anietie Iniedu said several suspects have been arrested and arraigned, but he declined to share details to avoid jeopardising court proceedings. He assured Nigerians that comprehensive information will be released once investigations conclude. Addressing claims of bias, Iniedu insisted the police will neither conceal evidence nor protect anyone found guilty. He confirmed that the Inspector General of Police has ordered all suspected criminals to be tracked, arrested, and prosecuted. Iniedu also noted that additional security assets—including specialised units, drones, and helicopters—have been deployed to the state. Intelligence gathering has been strengthened through collaboration with other security agencies.
