Bodycam Footage Shows Six-Year-Old Who Shot Virginia Teacher Admitting He Took Mother’s Gun
Newly released police bodycam footage shows the aftermath of the January 2023 shooting of first-grade teacher Abby Zwerner at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia. The six-year-old pupil told officers that he took a 9mm handgun from his mother’s purse and brought it to school. Zwerner was shot in the hand and chest but survived after multiple surgeries. The footage was unsealed in October 2026 after it was used in proceedings involving former assistant principal Ebony Parker. The child could not be prosecuted because of his age, while his mother was sentenced for child neglect after the gun was left accessible.
