One Month On: Colleagues Honour Slain Teacher in Ogbomoso Abduction Crisis
Exactly one month ago, bandits attacked three schools in Oriire LGA of Ogbomosho, Oyo State. The assault turned tragic at LA Primary School in Ahoro Esiele when gunmen fatally shot veteran teacher Joel Adesiyan. A senior colleague paid tribute to Mr. Adesiyan’s dedication and sacrifice. He recalled how the teacher left Ahoro Esiele each Friday after a week of service and always wore his Nigeria Union of Teachers uniform with pride. "You held chalk, not a gun, yet you were gunned down for no reason," the colleague wrote. He described his own shock and grief upon hearing the news and found comfort only in his faith. Mr. Adesiyan has been laid to rest. The school community still awaits word on the 45 students and staff taken hostage during the coordinated raid.
