Why Tinubu Ordered Wike to Build Judges’ Quarters in Abuja

Why Tinubu Ordered Wike to Build Judges’ Quarters in Abuja

President Bola Tinubu inaugurated 10 new housing units for Court of Appeal justices in Katampe, Abuja. He said the project shows his administration’s commitment to strengthening judicial institutions and improving officers’ welfare. Represented by the Attorney-General, Tinubu stressed that secure, comfortable accommodation for judges is not a privilege but an investment in rule of law, good governance and national development. He urged state governments to match the federal effort by funding judiciary infrastructure in their regions. Minister Nyesom Wike affirmed the project will reinforce judicial independence, not influence decisions. Leaders of the Court of Appeal and National Industrial Court praised the move, noting that safe housing protects officers from external coercion and supports a fair justice system.

Partnering with legal associations to maintain and monitor these units could ensure judges focus on cases rather than housing concerns.
