Customs Says 399 Rifles Were Intercepted at Tin Can Island Port
The Nigeria Customs Service says it intercepted 399 pump-action rifles and hundreds of firearm components hidden in a shipping container at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos, in July 2026. Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi said the weapons were handed over to the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons. Suspects linked to the shipment are facing trial at the Federal High Court. He said intelligence, digital tools and risk-management systems were vital to stopping prohibited goods at Nigeria’s borders. Adeniyi added that Customs collected ₦7.28 trillion in 2025 and is targeting ₦11.07 trillion in revenue for 2026.
