TCN Denies Jos Transmission Fault as Kaduna Electric Cites Reduced Power Supply

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has rejected Kaduna Electric’s claim that a fault on the 330kV Jos transmission line caused reduced electricity supply in its franchise area. TCN said all 330kV lines serving Jos are operational and transmitting bulk power. It said the only recent incident occurred at 3:30am on August 23, when the Jos-Lafia Line 2 circuit breaker was opened temporarily for voltage control and grid stability. According to TCN, the line was restored at 11:59pm on August 24 and has remained in service. Kaduna Electric had said lower allocation, including an outage at a Shiroro generating unit, reduced the power available to its customers. TCN urged electricity stakeholders to verify transmission information before making public statements, while Kaduna Electric said it was working with the company to improve supply distribution.
