Driver Accuses Police of Firing Shot That Killed Boss in Ikire
A driver has accused officers in a white police Hilux of firing the shot that killed his boss near the Ikire bridge on the Ibadan-Ife highway in Osun State. The driver said he was travelling from Ibadan to Bayelsa with the deceased and his wife when the vehicle slowed at a speed breaker. He alleged that police officers in the Hilux began shooting and that a bullet entered through the front windscreen, fatally hitting his boss. He said there was no fight, riot or presence of thugs before the shooting. The account contradicts the Osun Police Command's statement that armed hoodlums attacked officers during a confrontation over control of a motor park after the governor's re-election. Police said a stolen rifle was used to shoot three officers and two passers-by, who later died. Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident.
