Ize-Iyamu Mourns Dan Orbih, Recalls Friendship That Transcended Politics
I first met Dan Orbih at the University of Benin in 1981. Over more than four decades, our friendship endured different political affiliations, election contests and public disagreements. We stood on opposing sides in several elections, yet Dan never allowed politics to become personal hostility. He was fearless, articulate and firm in his convictions, but he was also witty, generous and always enjoyable to be around. When I became the PDP governorship candidate in 2016, Dan gave me support that went beyond his duties as party chairman. Even after I returned to the APC and we faced each other again in 2020, he treated me with respect and avoided personal attacks. Edo State has lost an illustrious son and the political class has lost a formidable leader. I have lost a dear friend and brother. May God grant him eternal rest and comfort his family, friends and all who mourn him.
