National Assembly Plans Local-Language Versions of Nigerian Laws

The National Assembly Library Trust Fund says it plans to translate Nigerian laws into Igbo, Hausa, Yoruba and other local languages to make legislative information easier for more citizens to understand. The initiative is part of a wider digitisation plan that includes an upgraded e-library, a mobile app, a bills tracker and simplified video explainers on bills, laws and legislative procedures. The proposed tracker would allow the public to follow bills as they move through the National Assembly. Officials also said the reforms are intended to improve access to authentic parliamentary records and limit the spread of altered or outdated copies of bills and laws. They stressed the need for stronger cybersecurity, document verification and digital preservation as more records move online.
