Murder Suspect Dies After Collapsing at Bayelsa High Court
A murder suspect, Bethlehem Nwanlia, reportedly collapsed and died at the Bayelsa State High Court while awaiting judgment in a case involving alleged conspiracy, kidnapping and multiple murders. The case concerns the 2022 killings of Odeinyefa Ogbolosingha, an in-law of Governor Douye Diri; Paramount Ruler Kolibo Francis Amabelimo; and Samuel Oburo in Kalaba community, Yenagoa Local Government Area. Court sources said judgment was adjourned to 27 October 2026 because the judge was absent. Witnesses said Nwanlia clutched his chest and collapsed shortly after the adjournment was announced. Efforts to revive him were reportedly unsuccessful. He was said to have experienced health complications, including high blood pressure and stroke, while in custody at the Okaka Medium Correctional Centre.
