Atiku Says Tinubu’s Economic Record Could Cost Him Re-Election in 2027
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, saying the administration’s record could lead to its defeat in 2027. In a statement issued on Saturday, Atiku said the removal of petrol subsidy and the naira’s depreciation had deepened hardship for Nigerians. He noted that the exchange rate had moved from about ₦471 to ₦1,329 per dollar under the current administration. Atiku was responding to Tinubu’s remarks at the launch of his re-election campaign in Kaduna, where the President blamed opposition figures for poverty and hunger. Atiku said Nigerians were facing real economic difficulties and urged the President not to shift responsibility.
