Petition Alleges ₦1.8tn Budget Padding Scheme Linked to Senator Adeola
A petition submitted to the EFCC has accused Senator Solomon Adeola, who chairs the Senate Committee on Appropriation, of allegedly influencing more than ₦1.8 trillion in federal budget allocations between 2023 and 2026. The petitioners want the anti-graft agency to investigate the claims. The petition alleges that projects such as roads, tricycle distribution and empowerment programmes were inserted under federal agencies whose mandates do not cover those activities. It names several MDAs and claims some allocations were vaguely described, duplicated or left permanently marked as ongoing. It also alleges that a network of companies with linked registration details received contracts connected to the allocations. The petitioners have requested a forensic audit, on-site inspection of projects and a review of the companies' accounts.
