Why Removing Tinubu May Not Immediately Improve Nigerians’ Lives
The APC should be voted out, but a change of government will not automatically make life better. Nigeria’s debt burden and growing budget deficits mean a large share of public revenue is already committed to debt servicing. Fuel subsidy removal is not only a political issue. Keeping it would further strain public finances, even though citizens are right to criticise President Tinubu’s leadership and demand better policies. Any government that takes over will still face difficult choices. It must improve tax collection, borrow carefully for major rail and pipeline projects, reform the electricity market, tackle corruption and diversify the economy. Restoring subsidies without solving these underlying problems may offer temporary relief, but it could deepen the debt crisis and lead to worse hardship later.
