Seven Injured as Car Ramps into Pedestrians in Derby; Driver Arrested
Police in Derbyshire responded after a black Suzuki Swift mounted the pavement in the Friar Gate area at around 9:30pm on March 28. Seven pedestrians sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Eyewitnesses described the scene as “absolute carnage,” with people lying on the road and pavement. Ambulance crews treated the injured at the scene before rushing them to Royal Derby Hospital and the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. A man in his 30s, originally from India, was arrested nearby and remains in custody. He faces charges including attempted murder, causing serious injury, inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving. Derbyshire Constabulary reassured residents there is no ongoing risk to the public and said detectives are keeping an open mind about the motive. Local officials have expressed shock and urged anyone with information to contact the police.
