Man Dies Trying to Rescue Toddler Who Fell Into Abule Egba Well
A man has died while trying to rescue a two-year-old child who fell into a domestic well on Paul Street, inward Agbe Road, Abule Egba, Lagos. The child’s mother, a cleaner in the compound, reportedly raised the alarm after the toddler fell into the well. The man entered the well to help but became trapped and was later recovered dead. LASEMA, the fire service, neighbourhood safety officers and police joined the search. Officials said the well’s depth, high water level and thick mud made recovery difficult. A specialist diver retrieved one of the child’s shoes but could not recover the toddler, believed to have sunk into the mud. Residents have been urged to keep wells and other openings securely covered and to call emergency services rather than attempt dangerous rescue operations.
