AI Is Giving Rise to One-Person Companies
One of AI’s biggest shifts may be happening outside large companies. Solo founders are using AI agents to handle tasks once assigned to full teams, including customer support, software development, sales and marketing. Examples cited include founders building AI-run businesses that can launch websites, process payments and coordinate support with minimal human input. The tools needed to do this are also becoming cheaper and easier to access. Solo-founded startups reportedly grew from 23.7% of new startups in 2019 to 36.3% by mid-2025. As more small businesses adopt generative AI, the possibility of a highly valuable one-person company is moving closer to reality.
