US Deported Over 25,000 Migrants to Third Countries Under Secret Agreements, Report Says

An international investigation says the United States deported at least 25,447 migrants to countries where they had no known ties between January 2025 and August 31, 2026. About 20,000 people were sent to Mexico, while thousands more were transferred to 27 countries in Latin America, Africa and the Pacific. The US reportedly reached agreements with 35 countries and set aside about $410 million for the arrangements. The agreements reportedly vary on which nationalities can be accepted and whether migrants with criminal records may be transferred. Lawyers say some deportees have been detained in countries where their legal protections are uncertain.
