Nigeria Customs, US Business Groups Discuss Faster Trade and Digital Reforms
The Nigeria Customs Service has held talks with the US Chamber of Commerce, the US-Africa Business Centre and the American Business Council to improve trade facilitation and business relations between Nigeria and the United States. At the 28 October 2026 meeting in Abuja, Customs officials said the Service is pursuing more transparent tariff processes, quicker cargo clearance, improved dispute resolution and stronger engagement with businesses. Customs also highlighted plans to deploy 22 additional scanners at ports, airports and border stations. It said it is expanding digital services, including automated licence and permit applications, as part of its transition to paperless operations. Representatives of the US business groups welcomed progress in trade facilitation and urged continued collaboration to support investment in sectors including agriculture, energy, healthcare, critical minerals and the digital economy.
