Amaechi Says ADC Will Assess NNPCL Refineries Before Promising Revival
ADC vice-presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi says the party cannot guarantee a revival of Nigeria’s government-owned refineries before first assessing their condition and the cost of repairs if it takes office in 2027. He said governments often make commitments before assuming office, only to discover that the scale of the challenge is greater than expected. The refineries have remained a major concern despite several rehabilitation efforts. Amaechi said an ADC-led government would consider supporting private and modular refineries by selling crude oil to domestic refiners below international prices. He argued that cheaper local refining could lower fuel, transport, food and production costs. He also identified agriculture, industrialisation, job creation, security and education as priorities, saying stronger economic opportunities could help reduce insecurity.
