The ministry described the posts as misleading and urged social media users to be cautious about unverified information. Ramaphosa’s office had confirmed that he was taking time away from public engagements on medical advice, without disclosing the nature of his illness. Claims that Chinese President Xi Jinping fainted or left the summit early were also disputed. Xi attended the summit’s second session on 13 September and completed his scheduled engagements. No verified evidence has linked Ramaphosa’s medical leave or any leader’s health to food served at the BRICS meeting.
