23-Year-Old Arraigned Over Alleged Kidnap and Killing of Abuja Cleric, Another Victim

Police have arraigned 23-year-old Ibrahim Abubakar before the Federal High Court in Abuja over the alleged kidnapping and killing of Pastor Nicholas Alfa and Elijah Nweke. Abubakar pleaded not guilty to six charges, including kidnapping, hostage-taking resulting in death and unlawful possession of firearms. Police alleged that the victims were abducted in Nyanya and taken to Gbagalape Forest, where their families were asked to pay ₦8 million in ransom. A co-defendant, Abubakar Shuaibu, was removed from the charge after the prosecution told the court that he died from an undisclosed illness. The court fixed November 26 for the commencement of trial.
