Gunmen Ambush, Kill District Head of Gwande in Plateau
Gunmen ambushed the District Head of Gwande, HRH Samuel Alaket, along the Sha District road bordering Daffo community on the evening of Tuesday, June 16, 2026. The traditional ruler was returning from a council meeting in Bokkos when his vehicle came under attack at about 7:30 p.m. He sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby clinic for emergency treatment but later died. Local sources confirmed the attack and described the loss as a painful blow to the people of Gwande in Bokkos LGA. The Bokkos Traditional Council and residents have been thrown into mourning. The youth leader said tensions rose after the incident but community members worked to calm the situation.
