Abel Enitan to Become Head of Civil Service: Expectations for Federal Service Reform

Abel Enitan to Become Head of Civil Service: Expectations for Federal Service Reform — 1 of 2
1 / 2

I congratulate Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan on his appointment as incoming Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective 27 August 2026. I also appreciate the outgoing Head of Service, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, for her contributions to Nigeria’s Federal Civil Service. Mr. Enitan brings substantial experience to the role, having served for seven years and seven months as a Permanent Secretary. His previous postings include Police Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs, the Office of the Vice President and Education. I expect the new Head of Service to prioritise merit, integrity, transparent career progression, digital transformation and stronger performance management. The real measure of his tenure should be faster public services, reduced bureaucracy and a more professional, citizen-centred Civil Service. I support this transition, but support must come with responsible expectations. Nigerians should see practical improvements in how government institutions serve the public.
