Atiku and Obi Should Build a Joint Vote-Monitoring Plan for 2027
Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi received millions of votes between them in the last election. Many supporters also believe the figures did not fully reflect the votes cast. Ahead of 2027, both leaders should consider a transparent vote-monitoring system. It should track voter accreditation, ballot casting, collation and the announcement of results. The aim should be to independently compare field reports with INEC’s declared results. Protecting every valid vote must be treated as seriously as mobilising people to vote. Nigerians need greater confidence that election outcomes reflect the ballots cast, rather than relying on court cases after the results are announced.
