I Feel Targeted by Police After Family Disputes in the US
I moved into my mother’s home in a predominantly white suburb, but a dispute with my brother led to him calling the police and accusing me of assault. I was taken in over an alleged verbal threat. In another incident, I called the police during a dispute but ended up being detained for four hours over an allegation that I used a broom to assault him. I was released only after I explained to an officer that I was the person who made the call. I have since moved to a nearby apartment, but I feel as though police officers are monitoring me during errands, at work and at the gym. I also receive harassing messages from unknown numbers. I feel unsafe and exhausted, and I need advice on what steps to take.
