Enugu Stakeholders Convene to Kick Off Nigeria’s 2024–2028 Human Rights Action Plan
The National Human Rights Commission has brought together government agencies and civil society in Enugu to begin implementing the 2024–2028 National Action Plan for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights. Speakers highlighted the plan’s roots in the 1993 Vienna Declaration and its alignment with Nigeria’s constitution and international human rights treaties. They also recalled the country’s first action plan launched between 2009 and 2013, and the decade of consultations that shaped the new framework. With the plan now in its implementation phase, stakeholders will focus on monitoring progress, clarifying roles, and strengthening coordination across sectors. Representatives from key NGOs urged constructive engagement to ensure sustainable protection of human rights nationwide.
