ADC Says Tinubu’s CNG Transport Expansion Is a Pre-Election Response

The African Democratic Congress has criticised the Federal Government’s renewed push to expand compressed natural gas-powered transport, describing it as a late response to Nigerians’ rising transport costs. The party said the move, discussed at a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and state governors, should have been introduced earlier to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal. It argued that Nigerians have faced high transport fares, food prices and declining purchasing power for years. ADC claimed the timing was linked to the approaching 2027 election and opposition proposals on targeted subsidies. The party said the government had the capacity to ease the cost-of-living pressure earlier but failed to act until electoral concerns became more urgent.
