Bayelsa Police Arrest 23 Suspects Over Cult Violence and Attempted Murder in Yenagoa
Bayelsa Police Command says it has arrested 23 suspects during operations targeting cult-related violence, attempted murder and public disorder in Yenagoa and nearby communities. The operations followed reported attacks and reprisals in areas including Igbogene, Onopa, Ovom, Agudama, Amarata, Swali and Akenfa. Police said four people died in the violence. The command reported recovering firearms, ammunition, cutlasses, axes, knives, suspected cannabis, codeine bottles and nitrous oxide canisters during the operations. Some suspects have reportedly been remanded or are awaiting arraignment, while police say efforts are continuing to trace other persons linked to the incidents. The command urged residents to share credible information and support security efforts in their communities.
