UN and Red Cross Warn Against AI Weapons That Can Target Humans Alone

UN Secretary-General António Guterres and ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric said the world is approaching a “moral red line” as AI and autonomous technologies become more integrated into military systems. They want states to agree on clear prohibitions and restrictions, rather than ban all autonomous technology. Negotiations are continuing under the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons, with a key review conference scheduled for November.
