Davido Hints at Major Label Dispute Amid Shallipopi and Dapper Music Drama

Davido has reacted to the growing wave of disputes between Nigerian artistes and their record labels. In a now-deleted post, he said he also has issues he wants to discuss but is being held back by his manager, Asa Asika, and another associate. The singer suggested that, when he eventually speaks, his story could be bigger than Peter Okoye’s past public dispute with his brothers. His comment followed Shallipopi’s allegation that Dapper Music is holding more than $1 million belonging to him, an allegation the label drama has brought into public focus. The post has also revived previous claims against Davido, including allegations of unpaid royalties and contractual disputes. These claims have been made by producer Napji, businessman Abu Salami, model Adetutu Alabi and former NFF president Amaju Pinnick. Davido previously responded to Napji’s allegation and reached an out-of-court settlement with Pinnick. The wider controversy has renewed conversations about royalties, contracts and accountability in Nigeria’s music industry.
