Troops Kill Suspect After Attack Leaves Two Female Miners Dead in Plateau
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace have killed a suspected militia member after an attack on female miners at an illegal mining site in Rakum community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. Security sources said troops responded to a distress call on September 28 and found that three women had been shot. Two victims were confirmed dead at the scene, while the third was taken to the General Hospital in Barkin Ladi with gunshot wounds. Reports that she later died have not been officially confirmed. Troops reportedly tracked the suspected attackers to Rungan Jallo, where a gunfight followed. One suspect was killed and two motorcycles believed to have been used in the attack were recovered. About seven huts were also reportedly burnt during the exchange, as security personnel continue patrols to locate other suspects.
