Police Kill Two Suspected Gunmen in Anambra Shootout, Recover AK-47 and Pump-Action Gun

Two suspected members of a criminal gang were killed in a gun battle with police operatives along Eziowelle Road in Anambra State in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, 2026. Police said Rapid Response Squad operatives from Awkuzu acted on intelligence about suspected kidnappers and armed robbers in the area. The suspects allegedly opened fire when the team arrived, leading to an exchange of gunfire. An AK-47 rifle with four live rounds, a pump-action gun and five cartridges were recovered at the scene. Other suspects reportedly escaped with gunshot injuries, and police say a manhunt and further investigation are ongoing.
