Lagos Says Borehole Regulation Is Not a New Tax
The Lagos State Government says it has not introduced a new tax on private boreholes. It says the ongoing exercise is to regulate drilling and groundwater use under existing environmental laws, and that residents must comply with existing permit requirements. Environment Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab said the rules are intended to protect groundwater, prevent contamination and support long-term water security. He urged residents to rely on verified information and not confuse regulatory compliance with a new tax.
