Police Arrest 10 Suspected Cultists, Recover Pistol in Cross River Community
The Cross River State Police Command says it arrested 10 suspected members of the Axe Men Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation in Abini, Biase Local Government Area. Police said the operation followed a petition from the community over alleged cult activities. Operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit reportedly moved into the area at about 5:15 a.m. on August 22 after weeks of surveillance. Items recovered included a locally made pistol, a battle axe, a dagger, a beret bearing a suspected cult logo, police camouflage trousers and a cardigan. The police said preliminary interrogation indicated that the suspects admitted membership of the group. The command said investigations are ongoing and appealed to residents to continue providing credible information on criminal activities.
