FG Unveils Five-Point Plan to Tackle Banditry and Kidnappings in Sokoto
The Federal Government has outlined a five-point strategy to address banditry, terrorism and illicit arms trafficking in Sokoto State. The plan focuses on intelligence-led operations, stronger inter-agency and cross-border cooperation, community early-warning systems, protection of agricultural livelihoods and preventing recruitment into criminal groups. The strategy includes sustained security deployments around vulnerable settlements, forest corridors and border communities. It also calls for closer cooperation among security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, women and youth groups, while protecting farms, schools, markets, health facilities and rural routes. Security experts at the Sokoto forum said attacks have affected 21 of the state’s 23 local government areas. They also reported that more than 1,100 people were kidnapped in Sokoto in the 12 months to June 2026, underlining the scale of the security challenge.
