Former Liberian Vice President Detained Over Alleged $317m Cocaine Network

Former Liberian Vice President Detained Over Alleged $317m Cocaine Network

Liberia has charged former Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor with drug trafficking, money laundering and other offences linked to an alleged transnational narcotics network. Howard Taylor, 63, was reportedly detained at Roberts International Airport in Monrovia while attempting to board an international flight. Authorities linked the investigation to a cocaine seizure valued at about $317 million. Three foreign nationals, two Croatians and one Ukrainian, were also charged in absentia. Liberian authorities say the investigation now extends to senior security officials and others suspected of financing, organising or protecting the operation. Howard Taylor has not publicly commented. Her lawyer said no comment would be made until she is formally charged in court.
