Anambra NMA Threatens 48-Hour Strike Over Kidnapping of Dr Emegakor
The Anambra branch of the Nigerian Medical Association has demanded the immediate and unconditional release of Dr Edwin Emegakor. He was abducted from Crown Multi-Specialist Hospital, Nkpor, on May 7 by unknown men in uniform. In a communique issued after an emergency meeting, the NMA warned that all doctors in the state will down tools if Dr Emegakor is not freed within 48 hours. They have called on the state government and security agencies to secure his release before the deadline. The NMA condemned the rising insecurity and thanked the governor’s office and health commissioner for ongoing efforts. They urged members to continue providing affordable care despite the threat to their colleague’s safety, and pledged to reconvene in 48 hours to review progress.
