Algeria Severs Diplomatic Relations With UAE, Cites Hostile Actions
Algeria has severed diplomatic relations with the United Arab Emirates, accusing Abu Dhabi of a series of provocative and hostile actions. The Algerian government said it had exhausted all options to preserve bilateral relations. The UAE said it hoped the decision would be temporary and reaffirmed its commitment to ties between both countries’ peoples. Algeria has reportedly given the UAE ambassador 48 hours to comply with the decision. Algeria will also close its airspace to UAE-registered civilian and military aircraft from Friday, though commercial flights to and from Algiers are expected to remain exempt until the end of 2026. The dispute follows years of tension over Israel, Western Sahara and influence in the Sahel region.
