Police Confirm 28 Killed in Lakurawa Attack on Sokoto Community

The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed that 28 people were killed when suspected Lakurawa terrorists attacked Ungushi community in Kebbe Local Government Area on Sunday evening. Police spokesperson Ahmad Rufai said the nature of the attack initially made it difficult to establish the exact number of casualties. Local sources said the Chief Imam of the Ungushi Izala Jumu’at Mosque, Imam Aliyu, was among those killed. The Nigerian Army has since assessed security conditions in Kebbe and nearby communities. The Army says it has adjusted its security strategy to stop further infiltration and protect vulnerable border communities between Sokoto and Kebbi states.
