Makinde Asks FG to Show 2026 Budget Funding for New Army Divisions
Oyo State Governor and APM presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has asked the Federal Government to identify the 2026 budget allocation for expanding the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions and recruiting 28,000 personnel. Speaking at a town hall in Lafia, Nasarawa State, Makinde said the proposed expansion must be backed by clear financial and operational plans if it is to tackle insecurity, especially in the North Central. He said he reviewed the 2026 budget but could not find a provision linked to the proposed army expansion. Makinde also raised concerns about Oyo State's reliance on federal allocations, which he said had risen to nearly 80%.
