Nigeria Customs Rescue Infant Gorilla, Arrest Wildlife Trafficker in Kano
Nigeria Customs Service officers, working with the Special Wildlife Office and Customs Intelligence Unit, raided a suspected primate trafficking ring in Kofar Mata, Kano State. They rescued a captive baby gorilla and arrested a suspect. The infant gorilla has been moved to veterinary care for specialised medical attention and rehabilitation. Assistant Comptroller Anuhu Mani said the operation targeted syndicates involved in the illicit trade of protected primates across the Kano axis. Mani highlighted the success of intelligence-driven operations and collaboration with conservation partners. Investigations are ongoing as officers follow up on actionable leads generated from this raid.
