Tinubu Praises EFCC After FBI Recognises Nigeria’s Role in Sextortion Arrests
President Bola Tinubu has praised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after the FBI recognised its support in an international operation against online child exploitation and sextortion. The operation, known as Operation Artemis, led to the arrest and extradition of Adebola Festus Adekunle and Mudasiru Afeez Olawale in August 2026. The two suspects are facing federal charges in the United States. Tinubu said Nigeria must not become a safe haven for criminals targeting victims at home or abroad. He urged the EFCC and other law enforcement agencies to sustain cooperation with international partners and strengthen efforts against financial and transnational crimes. The President added that improved anti-money-laundering measures and Nigeria’s removal from international high-risk lists reflect efforts to rebuild confidence in the country’s financial system.
