Five Suspected Kidnappers Arrested in Niger as Police Recover 10 Rifles
The Niger State Police Command says it has arrested five suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate accused of operating in parts of Niger State and the FCT. Police said 10 rifles and ammunition were recovered during operations in Minna, Gauraka, Bwari and Sabon-Wuse. The alleged gang leader, Samaila Ilya, also known as Yakumujuri, was arrested in Minna on July 10 after reportedly escaping an earlier gun battle with police in Bwari. Police said he allegedly admitted involvement in kidnappings around Gauraka, Kubwa and Bwari. Investigators linked the gang to the abduction of a woman and her son in Kubwa. Police said one suspect still at large allegedly shot the son dead before the woman was released after a ransom was paid. Three kidnap victims were rescued during a separate operation in Gauraka. The suspects are in custody, while police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang.
