INEC Says 2027 General Elections Will Hold as Scheduled
INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan says the commission will not alter the timetable for the 2027 general elections. He said the polls must hold as scheduled under the law. Speaking during a meeting with INEC staff from the South-South in Port Harcourt, Amupitan said Rivers State would receive close attention because it has the region’s largest voter register, with 3,736,434 registered voters. He said INEC is reviewing claims and objections from the voters’ register exercise ahead of the planned release of the final register on December 15. The commission is also working with security agencies to protect voters, officials and election materials. Amupitan added that Nigerians, not artificial intelligence or algorithms, would decide election outcomes. He said INEC is strengthening its digital systems against cybersecurity threats ahead of the polls.
